I opened Sassy Sadie HQ in Waihi as I felt there was an opening for affordable, quality, casual clothing and accessories. I have been in the retail business since before I left school.
I love to Merchandise and put my own mark on fashion and home accessories.
I’m a NZ qualified florist, and have been for over 20 years now. I successfully owned and ran my own florist shop in Waihi for 14 years, in that time bringing up my family.
I love to shop, and here at HQ I feel as though I am your personal shopper. Bringing to you all the things I love!

As soon as you walk into the store you definitely get the vibe that Mel loves everything she does!
Mel has been in Retail since leaving school, and has worked for one of New Zealand and Australia’s leading homewares and furniture stores.
Following her passion and heart, she opened a successful Florist and Gift store in Waihi, and lead the way for many years.
With the evolution of retail in Waihi, things were becoming congested, So she sold the successful florist shop and closed the gift side to reinvent the shop and its identity.
Then the birth of Sassy Sadie evolved, bringing to Waihi a beautiful boutique, supporting the NZ brands that had been with her in previous years.
Mel Brings an awesome collection of Stella & Gemma and Moana Road. These two brands you can find around the country, yet Mel is showcasing them well with stocking over 60% of their ranges.
You will find Mel behind the counter most days and running the website and orders and inventory herself. Mel is supported by her husband and three children, and resides at Beautiful Waihi Beach.
You will find the doors open from 9.30 till 3 Monday to Friday and Saturday from 10 until 12.30, Mels hours are for a work life balance, to allow her to spend time at the shop while the children are at school, and then shutting to be a more hands on mum after hours.
In Mels era Sadie was always classified or referred to as ‘Sadie, Sadie the cleaning lady’ (classic house wife), though in todays world Sadie is “Princess”. With that, often Mums and Daughters say they are sassy, or called Sassy, so the Name Sassy Sadie is dedicated to all those hard working mumma’s and Daughters. The shop is really about that, having the cutest wee accessories and homewares for them.
You can shop with confidence that something here will make you feel like you have treated yourself or someone you love, a friend, a daughter, a mum, a Nana and heck, Mel has even got something for the blokes as well.

It is not hard to tell that Mel in her previous business won the peoples choice in the Coromandel business awards. Mel loves her customers as much as her products and brands she supports.
Mel also has been the brain behind many fundraising events. From pink Ribbon breakfast’s, In memory of her late mother, to local fundraisers for friends in Need. Like Wee Ocean, helping her to get to America for life changing surgery for cerebral palsy, and recently a friend for extra medication to battle bowel Cancer, just to name some big ones. Followed closely by often donating goods for Raffles and other fundraisers, and recently sponsoring a local cheer leading team with Jackets.
